I didn't have a problem with the gay storyline. Later on in the game (spoiler) we find out that Ellie is also gay.
The problem I had that was cringe worthy was the plot holes.
For a survivalist who thought of everything. Apparently he didn't. He was a great planner but when the shit hits the fan he makes tactical mistakes.
His pit traps should have had spikes on the bottom. If he traps something why would he want it alive in a ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE.
A random stranger chances upon your location and becomes the love of your life. Okay! And you instantly trust that person because of the sparkle in his eyes. This is a zombie apocalypse. You do not trust random strangers at all!
A problem with "fixed fortifications" is that everyone knows your there. At this point everyone would be scrounging for whatever they can find. So no one chanced upon his location except his lover and one raiding party. No one notices the pristine houses surrounded by a freaking fence?
Where is his bullet proof vest? And he returns fire standing in the middle of the street. TAKE COVER!
It doesn't show if his outer perimeter 360 degrees is booby trapped.
As a raiding party. You would scout this location first. YOU STAY IN THE TREE LINE AND OBSERVE. How many people? Anything near the fence? You don't just walk up to the fence and knock. Then when you do decide to attack you send ONE "volunteer" in first with wire cutters to cut the fence. While the rest of the group COVERS.
For all these years. Yes vehicles were hard to come by. But anyone thought of just RAMMING the bloody fence.
